Writers Corner Live show Episode 55 with Ronna Russell, author of The Uncomfortable Confessions Of a Preacher's KidRonna Russell grew up the youngest of three daughters born to a well-known United Pentecostal preacher and his wife. The clamped-down, oppressive nature of the cult, compounded with her father’s need to control his public image and her mother’s belief that it was her Biblical imperative to be submissive, created a childhood environment of disassociation from secular life, a bubble from which she watched the world go by, unable to participate. The mandates of the United Pentecostal Church never sat well with Ronna and from an early age, she plotted to get out as soon as possible, hell or no hell. And that is exactly what she did. She jumped into marriage at the age of twenty-three, a union that lasted 22 years and produced four children. When the marriage ended, she found herself in the position of having to work several jobs to support her children as well as face the choices she made that led to this precarious place. Ronna also found that she was free to consider her own desires. Then the time came to write about it. With these transitions behind her and her children grown, Ronna has relocated, remarried and returned to school.About the BookThe Uncomfortable Confessions of a Preacher’s Kid is the story of a childhood controlled by the brutal hand of a narcissistic, closeted homosexual. I believed I could leave my upbringing behind and walk away unscathed. I married a closeted homosexual man, in hopes he could keep me safe. As our sex life and bank account dwindled to nothing, fear kept me silent. In the meantime, my father died of AIDs. The pain of his death fractured my biological family, and I clung to my husband and children, creating a cocoon that became a prison. Eventually, I was forced to see my husband’s homosexuality and refusal to work, realizations that brought me to the breaking point. I found the courage to be alone, to take care of my children no matter the cost, and the joy of my own sexual freedom. In the process, I fell in love with my own life.Buy the book on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Uncomfortable-Confessions-Preachers-Kid/dp/1684332370/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1548946701&sr=1-1&keywords=uncomfortable+confessions+preachers+kidConnect with Ronnahttps://ronnarussell.com/
